I dare you not to smile while you watch this.

After you check Ben out about nineteen times, you should watch a few more times to catch the sweet moves of Gabby and my cousin Andy. With the exceptions of Gabby and my cousin Jennifer's son Tyler, I had no idea anyone in our family could dance. Hawkins, Lutz, and Huffstetler branches best beware, because I'm probably going to throw many dance parties to put you to the test.Mama Lutzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03601300948924974515noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823225.post-53708028745889890602012-10-07T21:23:00.000-05:002012-10-07T21:23:05.262-05:00Nate Walks!

So, this isn't happening all the time, and it certainly hasn't happened in further lengths than this... but it happened! I'm kind of thrilled, because babies that can walk have more fun outside than babies that can only crawl. Yeah, you can't tell how happy I am by how stinkin' high my voice is in the video. Nah. So, in the Book of Proverbs, it says, "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." (17:17)
However, my prayer lately is that they'll be siblings and friends. The best part of my day is often listening to one of these precious three making another one laugh. All three do play together pretty well right now. It wasn't even until this year when Gabby and Ben figured out how to purposefully irritate the other. I think they used to call that "pushing buttons" in the days of yore. Obviously, there's more of that to come. Obviously. [sigh] I just don't believe that they have to hate each other. Every now and then I see families where the kids truly do nothing but fight, and I think how blessed I am to have had parents that showed us how to play together and love each other. I think they used to call it "getting along" in the days of yore.

Sure, we got on each other's nerves. And we got in trouble for using some pretty ugly names for each other. But I don't remember much of that. I mostly remember singing together in the van on road trips.

Yeah, I'm definitely praying that my kids will love each other the way I love my sisters.Mama Lutzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03601300948924974515noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823225.post-47058830610492839012012-04-25T15:18:00.000-05:002012-04-25T15:18:13.760-05:00Let-DownPoor guy has been ogling our meals for awhile now. Easter egg hunt, me with camera, annoying certain families who don't like to be photographed, standing in chairs to get the angle, running ahead to try to catch faces... I just realized my dad did this our whole childhood. Now I will do this more proudly! I guess I unofficially consider myself the church Easter egg hunt photographer, but I'll get to the ones you want to see the most: Lutz kids!

While hiding the eggs for the second hunt, I had a little moment to myself and thought about how we adults don't always do such a thorough job explaining faith traditions to kids. Maybe that's why it seems like the Easter Bunny is just the Santa of Spring. (Anybody else notice that trend growing?) Anyway, my mind wanders through the egg hunt analogy, and I'm thinking, "Adults should do this!" The empty egg = the empty tomb = resurrection = Life. Life, as opposed to death. Life, as in abundant, full, good, satisfying life. And we totally get distracted from hunting it. Little reminders are hidden all over the place, and we're distracted by flowers (or bees on the flowers!) or cameras or dayplanners or... Adults need an egg hunt, because we're the ones who forget to explain this pretty neat tradition to little ones.

So what does Jason preach this morning?

And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?"
{Luke 24:5}

Yup. Arts Alive is an annual event put on by our school system that I've blogged about before. This year, I had plenty to celebrate...

1) My daughter's work was featured in the gallery!
2) I took a group from the alternative high school that I work at, and they've never had a group perform that I know of. I have a lot of respect for those gutsy five kids who sang today, and hopefully they changed some minds in the audience who might believe that kids who've been sent to an alternative school are "too bad" to do anything positive.
3) I wasn't in charge this year. Let's say that again! I wasn't in charge this year! Whoop!

Other great things that happened today included bike rides, "Taco Bells" (as Ben says,) and the power team of Gabby+Jason working their way through another soccer game. I'm not sure if she's completely in love with soccer of her own yet, but she's completely in love with her dad. Her dad loves soccer, and so she enjoys it, too. Don't get me wrong, she puts forth a lot of effort and seems to have fun, but I know that deep down he's her #1 motivating factor. So sweet. Coach Jason has been dealt a really young team it seems, and he is so patient and encouraging with the kids. Our favorite moment so far involves our goalie placing the ball on the ground right in front of the goal while Jason yells, "Throw it! Throw it! Noooooo... Pick it up! Throw-" And that's when the other team scored.

Little brothers take their sideline cheering job seriously.
That is, unless there's anything else to do.

Mama Lutzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03601300948924974515noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823225.post-45075369431241232912012-03-05T22:47:00.003-05:002012-03-05T22:52:02.794-05:00Late Night with LaurenSo, my version of a late night talk show involves very little talking, a few pictures, and sleep. He can sit up unassisted for a few minutes or a few seconds or not at all, depending on his mood. He's a great eater, is cutting his first tooth, and still gets up once or twice a night to nurse. His favorite dance floor moves are The Superman (lay on your belly and hold your arms and legs off the floor) and Stop, Drop, and Roll (emphasis on the roll.) Today he started getting up on hands and knees occasionally, too! Nate is decidedly sweet-natured. When he grins, we can't help but cover his fat cheeks with kisses. He always laughs when I turn my head away and look at him out of the corner of my eyes. He's fascinated by the sound of running water and the sight of his siblings. Unexpectedly, he loves to have his diaper changed. Hilarious! Grins, laughs, coos... Grateful that it's not a battle with this one!

Happy half-birthday, Nathanael Ray! You are so easy to love.
Mama Lutzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03601300948924974515noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17823225.post-9166256487444960162012-02-07T06:11:00.002-05:002012-02-11T17:57:29.453-05:00Celebrating AGAIN!

With 3 family birthdays in the first week of February, we're beginning to wonder how we missed out on the cake.
