By the time we arrived mid-morning, they had cancelled boat trips out to see the USS Arizona memorial. We aren't sure why. We did get to walk around the grounds, read a lot of informational plaques, and have Rachel tell a short version of the story of December 7, 1941. She did a great job putting the geography and history together for us. We couldn't help but think of Grady Elliot, the husband of Jason's distant cousin, who was a survivor on the USS West Virginia. Trying to imagine such a horrific event in such a beautiful place is sombering.
